This Authentic Models production is a detailed replica of an original ivory set manufactured by the British 'Jaques' company, circa 1850, and purchased at a 1990s London auction. English chess master, Howard Staunton, promoted this set at the first international chess tournament in 1851. It's clearly distinguishable pieces soon became the competition standard known as the 'Staunton' set. The Chessmen are new and each set consists of 32 Chessmen. They are manufactured from polyresin, a crushed stone composite that gives it the feel and weight of stone, but the durability of a plastic.

The House of Staunton Superior Traditional Chessboard with 2.25" Squares features Walnut (dark) and Maple (light) squares with a Walnut frame. This Chessboard is 0.5" thick, has a moulded edge and a satin finish.
